Blah Blah UNBOXING

Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, Toyota have jumped on the unboxing bandwagon - creating a parody clip of the online fad. They recruited online and stand up comedian Adam Frucci to 'unpack' a Toyota Yaris, and basically had a bit of fun with it.

I find it refreshing that such a big band isn't afraid to be inventive with their online presence, and were smart enough not to try and start something themselves. Why not just reap the benefits of something that already has momentum?

Thoughts?

  1. wow, so weird. I have a question. is it true that they ll deliver the big box like that if we buy a brand new Yaris 2012?.. 1 more thing is that it s waste of material used to package each Toyota yaris and against with their brand image-Green cars...

  2. Thanks Sonika - a great parody of the traditional "unboxing" vids. I particularly liked the oversized silica gel sachet! :)

This is a classic example of a big brand taking chances and being a little "offbeat" with their use of SM. It's certainly entertaining, and connects well with their target market. Nice find!

  3. @Nguyen this is just a stunt clip, it was done for PR.... they dont actually pack every Yaris they sell in a box.... but man it would be awesome if they did.... It would totally be enough to make me jump on the unboxing bandwagon :)
@Wags oversized silica gel = awesome!

  4. I like it. They use lame to create excitement...mmmm not sure that makes any sense. But the bloke has such a cool dry sense of humour and says the oddest things "the steering whell is just the right size for.....hands", really?
Wonder how much PR was actually generated from this?
